Description
* Laurent Abel, MD, PhD, is Director of Research at INSERM (DRE).
* Since 2000, he has been co-directing with Jean-Laurent Casanova the Laboratory of Human Genetics of Infectious Diseases (Imagine Institute, Necker campus).
* He is studying the human genetics of infectious diseases, with the goal of identifying the main human susceptibility/resistance genes controlling the response to infection by various microbes (in particular, mycobacteria and oncogenic viruses), and the development of the associated infectious diseases.
* He is a leading expert in genetic epidemiology of infectious diseases, and has developed numerous methods in this field.
* He is the author or co-author of more than 350 publications in peer-reviewed journals since 1986 (H-index 100). In 2009, he was appointed as a visiting professor at The Rockefeller University of New York.
* He was awarded an ERC-Advanced grant in 2011.
